How to add an HTTP Alias to DotNetNuke
How do I keep my DotNetNuke site from changing the URL in the web browser's address bar? We
get this question a LOT, so here is the solution.
The first time you load your DotNetNuke site, it creates the first portal alias. Our
customers commonly first load their website with the temporary url such as http://asp2temp15.aquesthosting.com/yourDomain. After your domain name propagates
to our servers and you start accessing your website using your own domain name, you will notice
that when the site loads, the URL in the address bar of your web browser reverts back to
http://asp2temp15.aquesthosting.com/yourDomain. The solution to this problem
is to add the appropriate HTTP Alias (aka Portal Alias) to your DotNetNuke website.
Step 1:
Login to your DotNetNuke Portal as the 'host' user.
Step 2:
Select 'Host | Portals' from the menu.
Step 3:
Click edit (the pencil image) beside the appropriate portal name.
Step 4:
Scroll to the bottom of the Edit Portal page where the portal aliases are listed, and click 'Add New HTTP Alias'.
Step 5:
Enter the domain name that should show up in your browser window.
Repeat:
You may want to repeat the steps above to add all the urls that are used to reach your website.
